Find out how Airtame brings wireless screen sharing and digital signage to the interactive Samsung Flip for work and education

The post Samsung Flip + Airtame = an essential AV hack appeared first on Airtame.

Airtame is often used together with TVs, projectors, and external monitors. The device isn’t meant for the sole purpose of a single presenter to convey their key points. It’s meant to be a wireless tool that lets as many attendees as possible get involved.

The idea is for everyone to be able to mirror their full screen or a single window for the rest of the group to see. This way, innovation can grow when we discuss, challenge, and learn from each other’s ideas.

In the spirit of inclusion, here’s an example of an interactive display, the Samsung Flip, that offers a world of innovative potential (especially when used together with Airtame).

What is a Samsung Flip?

The Samsung Flip is a screen that doubles as both a TV and an interactive whiteboard (and blackboard), available in 55 and 65 inches. As the name suggests, the display can rotate – “flip” – 90 degrees between landscape and portrait mode. The Flip can be mounted to the wall or moved around on a height-adjustable stand that includes an integrated shelf and lockable wheels.

Users can create and scroll back and forth through digital flip charts that include presentation points, images, and sketches. This lets everyone go through each other’s work and offer feedback while simultaneously brainstorming ideas. Up to four people at a time can draw, write, and highlight with ease using the included Samsung Passive Pen, and simply erase with a swipe of the hand on the screen.

This solution is great for both educational and professional settings due to its interactive design. In the classroom, teachers and students can work together to revise written assignments and mathematical solutions. They can sketch out graphs and charts or even create artwork. At work, teams of designers, architects, and engineers can jointly develop floor plans, wireframes, and other types of product mockups.

Why pair a Samsung Flip with Airtame?

There are two key benefits of this paring: bring-your-own-device screen sharing and digital signage.

Let’s talk about screen sharing first.

In order for devices to connect and present wirelessly, the Samsung Flip supports NFC tagged. This function is supported only on Android 8.0 Oreo and later versions of Samsung mobile devices. While this is great for some Android users, it doesn’t cover a big group—people using Windows, Chromebook, Linux, macOS, or iOS devices.

Fortunately, Airtame comes to the rescue. With a device connected to the Flip’s HDMI port, Airtame brings cross-platform support (Powered by ) with native AirPlay, Google Cast, and Miracast (including touchback). AirPlay is the built-in screen sharing protocol available on your MacBooks, iPhones, and iPads. Google Cast is available with the Chrome browser, as well as many Android devices. Miracast is also supported on a variety of Android devices, as well as on Windows laptops. In addition to the “big three” screen sharing protocols, Airtame also has a desktop app for Windows, macOS, Chromebook, and Linux, that lets you share the same content from your laptop to multiple Airtame-equipped displays simultaneously.

And what about digital signage?

Airtame Cloud is an online platform that lets you manage all Airtame-equipped displays from anywhere. In addition to configuring and updating, the Cloud also gives you access to a variety of digital signage. While a Flip comes with the option to set an image as a screen saver, Airtame Cloud Lite (which is free) gives you the option of also displaying a public URL. What’s more, Cloud Lite gives you access to remote device management. Depending on your signage needs, you might want to opt for Airtame Cloud Plus, a paid plan that comes with signage apps such as Google Slides, YouTube, OneDrive, Dropbox, World Clock, Room Overview, and more. You can plan apps to be displayed on a loop or according to a schedule.

A perfect match

In separation, both the Samsung Flip and Airtame are best-in-class AV solutions. Brought together, they truly unlock the future of better collaboration at work and in school. Consider them as an investment in productivity.

In the past couple of weeks, we’ve made a lot of good progress with the mobile platforms, so we’ve got an update for you entirely on this topic alone!

iOS

Since the launch of the iOS app, we’ve now added .pdf support and the ability to stream images and documents directly from your applications. This means that you’ll be able to grab a .pdf document or image directly from Dropbox / Google Drive / One Drive and be able to stream to your monitor in a couple of clicks:

It’s also got a shiny new mobile presentation mode that turns your mobile device into a handheld presentation remote, along with a handy timer so you can see what stage you are in your presentation at a single glance:

Android

Android has gone from v0.5.3 to v0.5.6. What does that mean you ask? Here’s an overview of the features and fixes:

Pinch and zoom

Launch AIRTAME from other apps

Native PDF conversion

Streaming progress indicator

Adaptation for 10” tablets

Direct IP connection

You’re now able to open up .pdf files and images from your applications as with the iOS app, but in Android you’ve also got a built-in Dropbox functionality, that enables you to view and search through your content directly within the AIRTAME application. This is how it eventually will work on all mobile platforms, so you easily can browse around in your favourite storage services and stream content from within the AIRTAME application directly – at the moment you’ll have to “live” with going into each relevant application directly and then selecting which documents you’ll like to stream to the AIRTAME.

We’re constantly working on getting the details in the user flow right. Our focus is to create the smoothest process possible and create the small “oh that’s cool” (or “oh là là” moments as Benoit would say) when streaming your presentations and images.

Have a cool idea to better the experience?

Join the conversation and our community at forum.airtame.com

For the next step (and natural evolution) we’re working on a way to get your other media (videos etc.) via the application to stream directly. It will be the case as usual where we’ll stage the development over the different updates, starting with local/native media support and then move up from there, but more about that in another update 🙂

To find the applications, you can follow the links below: iOS Android

Until next time – happy streaming!
