Operating across multiple campuses and buildings, Hochschule Offenburg needed to modernize classroom technology without creating more complexity for instructors or Campus IT. By standardizing on Airtame, the university replaced aging AV hardware, reduced cable dependency, and created a consistent wireless experience for teaching and collaboration — regardless of location.
For a university spread across multiple campuses, delivering a consistent AV experience is a constant challenge. Network configurations, room setups, and user guidance must work the same everywhere — otherwise instructors lose time and IT teams absorb the friction.
At Hochschule Offenburg, classroom technology had evolved room by room. Some spaces relied on VGA, others HDMI. Many still depended on aging Crestron systems. The result was an inconsistent experience that made teaching harder and support more demanding.
Gilbert Seilheimer, Business Service Owner, Campus IT, and Head of Lab, Campus Gengenbach for Faculty W, saw the impact daily.
“We wanted to get rid of all that cabling — different inputs like VGA and HDMI, the aging Crestron system — and become less dependent on that hardware. That’s why we decided to roll out Airtame across the board.”

Instructors frequently lost time at the start of class figuring out how to connect. Mobile devices like iPads required adapters. Visiting lecturers and students moving between campuses encountered different setups in every building.
At the same time, the university was modernizing a large, fiber-connected network infrastructure, replacing aging WLAN controllers and access points. The goal wasn’t just better Wi-Fi — it was to reliably support AirPlay, Miracast, and Chromecast across internal, eduroam, and guest networks.
Hochschule Offenburg needed one wireless standard that worked the same way in every room.
Hochschule Offenburg introduced Airtame as the standard wireless presentation layer across lecture halls, seminar rooms, libraries, and group work spaces. Today, nearly 120 Airtame devices are deployed across multiple campuses and centrally managed.
Key elements of their setup:
“We tested several iterations. In the end, it’s very intuitive — you just have to try it once.”

Gilbert Seilheimer had tested Apple TV and other wireless solutions before, but flexibility was limited.
“Apple TV is good, but you’re locked into the Apple world. With Airtame, you’re extremely flexible — other solutions don’t give you that.”

By standardizing workflows across campuses and removing cable dependency, Hochschule Offenburg significantly reduced classroom startup friction.
“If you add it all up, we save around 20% of the time we used to spend just getting a lecture started.”

Instructors now encounter the same setup and same instructions in every room, regardless of campus.
In Gilbert Seilheimer’s introductory computer science courses, Airtame changed how problems are discussed:
“In the past I’d walk row by row, helping with programming problems. Only the small group around each screen saw the solution. Now students can simply share their screen to the front and we can discuss topics and problems as a group. That’s a huge benefit.”

In rooms with two projectors or large displays, instructors can also show different content side by side — for example, live code on one screen and slides or reference material on the other.
Airtame Cloud has become a key part of Campus IT’s daily workflow:
Central content and instruction updates
“Being able to centrally change wallpapers and text on all Airtames is extremely time-saving. With over a hundred devices across several buildings, it just wouldn’t make sense to do that on site.”

Scheduling for sustainability and device health
Gilbert Seilheimer uses power schedules to shut down Airtame-connected screens when they’re not needed, saving energy and extending display life.
“If I forget to switch off a display, it will keep running as long as it sees a signal. With scheduled shutdowns, we can reduce unnecessary runtime and support our sustainability goals.”

For a distributed university with multiple buildings and some 30-minute drives between sites, Cloud management turns what used to be manual, room-by-room work into a few clicks.
Hochschule Offenburg plans to continue replacing legacy AV systems where possible and further standardize wireless teaching across campuses.
For Gilbert Seilheimer and his team, Airtame supports a clear strategic goal:
“We wanted to become independent of all that legacy hardware and cabling. Airtame gives us a simple, reliable way to support teaching — no matter which campus, which room, or which device people use.”

“Our aim was to become less dependent on all that legacy hardware and cabling. Airtame lets us do that while giving instructors and students a simple way to share — in any room, on any campus.”
