Airtame CEO Jonas Gyalokay shares some learnings from 2020, a company update and a sneak peek at what’s planned for 2021.
2020 was difficult for many. It brought a global pandemic, followed by what felt like a barrage of unforeseen challenges. It forced us all to adapt to new ways of working and living. 2021 will no doubt bring its own hurdles. But hurdles often encourage us to grow. The team at Airtame is preparing for what is set to be an exciting year of embracing new challenges and growing as a company in the process.
For most of our customers, 2020 saw a complete transformation of teaching, learning and working practices. Educational facilities and businesses all over the world were forced to close and pivot to online classes, or embrace new working from home policies. People had to work twice as hard to stay connected with their students, teachers, colleagues and teams. While it was possible for many of us to adapt, it was more difficult for some than for others. And it would’ve been a whole lot tougher without access to the appropriate tools, support networks and technology.
In a post-Covid world, when schools can safely reopen and people can return to the office — whenever that may be — the way we use professional screens is likely to change. There will be a need for technology that helps maintain safety measures, brings people together responsibly, and facilitates more engaging and inclusive meetings and lessons – whether they’re in-person, remote, or a combination of the two. Screen sharing solutions will need to be truly open platform, connecting to the tools that schools and workplaces use everyday, and allowing any remote learners or workers to participate. There will likely be an increased need for digital signage, to showcase messages that boost morale, and to share health and safety information in realtime.
At Airtame, we strive to provide our customers with a platform that will help them achieve more when using screens together, through a combination of screen sharing, digital signage and remote device management. We are working hard to ensure the Airtame platform is as robust and useful as possible, both within the current Covid climate, and heading towards a post-Covid world.
Airtame is already used by more than 10,000 customers around the world, powering over one million monthly meetings and classes. With 2020 behind us and one month into a new year, we’ll continue to support our customers by providing a solution they can trust and rely on, while bringing Airtame to even more customers around the world.
Airtame is made up of 83 amazing team members and over 30 different nationalities. With headquarters in Copenhagen and a presence in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Budapest, we have a truly international mindset and a hunger to bring our solution to new customers all over the world.
As part of our plans for international growth in 2021, we have bolstered our executive leadership team, appointing a new CFO and CCO to help drive the continued expansion of the business across North America, EMEA, and APAC.
Martin Wagner joins Airtame as Chief Financial Officer, where he’ll oversee all financial operations as we continue to strengthen our existing presence across international markets. Prior to Airtame, Martin spent six years as CFO at Siteimprove, where he played a key role in preparing the SaaS organization as it scaled internationally and was recently acquired by Nordic Capital. Martin brings over two decades of experience from a range of successful tech companies, including Microsoft and Milestone Systems.
Sigurdur Orri Gudmundsson joins Airtame as our new Chief Commercial Officer, where he’ll be responsible for leading all commercial operations and ramping-up the global growth of the business. Sigurdur will draw from six years of experience building and leading Siteimprove’s commercial team through an impressive period of international expansion.
We’re super excited to welcome Martin and Sigurdur to the team, and believe they will bring invaluable experience in growing a successful technology business internationally, as well as skills in adopting a modern, collaborative approach to leadership.
With Martin and Sigurdur on board, we now have an incredibly strong senior leadership team in place. This will be crucial in helping us achieve our goals for 2021.
We also recently announced that we have raised an additional $6 million in funding. The funding involved participation from a combination of existing and new investors, as well as Danish investment fund Vækstfonden and Danske Bank. It brings the total external capital raised since Airtame launched in 2014 to $17.1 million.
This will allow us to continue to develop the Airtame solution, and ensure we attract top talent as we continue to expand our team and customer base internationally.
Last year, we officially launched Airtame Cloud Plus, our paid SaaS offering. This was a massive moment for Airtame, marking the transformation of our offering from purely a hardware device to a fully fledged hardware-enabled SaaS platform.
This year, we will work to build out an even more robust, device-agnostic platform that connects to a wider range of applications, opening up new screen sharing and digital signage possibilities for our current and future customers across both business and education.
The majority of the changes we make — whether it be the advancement of existing products, or the development of entirely new products — are based on the feedback and needs of our customers. If you have feedback to share or a suggestion on how our platform could be improved, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
With an even stronger leadership team in place, additional funding under our belt and an established hardware-enabled SaaS platform, we look forward to what is set to be a year of growth, challenges and new opportunities at Airtame.
